remained in production through 1965 and 1966 but the decision to stop
producing Colts came in the summer of 1966. There were no 1967 Colt

THE 1984 "BLACK FRAME" TRACTOR
LEGITIMACY CONVERSATION
I cannot guarantee that everything I've written below is completely correct. I searched the topic in several tractor forums around the net reading many discussions and listed a few answers that I felt were important. If you are interested in acquiring a legit "Black Frame" tractor, Be Careful, Be Informed, do your own Research because there is a lot of "Fake Knock-Offs" out there for sale.
In the latter part of 1983 Ingersoll purchased Case. I have read that Case had an agreement with Ingersoll that the 'Case Name Branding' would remain on all the tractors thru the Ingersoll 1984 transition production year. Not many of us know this and that is one of the problems that has led to a lot of controversy around the authenticity of 84' Black Frame tractors.
Is it a Case, is it a Ingersoll? Is there any Name Branding on the tractor? By referring to the Case/Ingersoll tractor Serial Numbers chart, "Black Frame" Garden Tractors began to appear in late 1983, supposedly meant for the 1984 production year and I have also read that a few creeped into early 1985. It has been said that the "Serial Number Tag" on a Black Frame tractor built in 1983 usually say 'Case' on them. So if the info above is accurate, Black Frame tractors could have been built in late 83' and perhaps early 85'.
A complete Black Frame Model had a black frame undercarriage, white seat, white deck, white attachments, and a bulged side hood with louvers on the top.
This tractor description is verified in the 1984 Case Garden Tractor Planning Guide, info .pdf, 'Link Above'. When I looked into this Planning Guide the first thing I saw was the name Case. I did not see any Name Branding on the exterior of the 84' tractor line-up. I only saw "HyDriv" on the side of the hood.
Not all the Black Frame tractors were sold with the above specs. The dealers could make changes to the seat, deck or any of the other accessories, to meet the desire of the customer, but it still had a "Black Frame" and was a pretty Good Look'n Tractor. Around the end of the 1984 transition production year, no more were ever produced making a Black Frame Tractor . . . . . "Highly Collectable".

At this current time in 2017 Eastman Industries the manufacturer of
Ingersoll Garden Tractors is "For Sale." Owner and President,
Nicholas M. Nikazmerad suffered a skiing accident that
left him a quadriplegic and has retired. In March
2016, all equipment was stored in trailers.
Tractors are no longer being produced
unless a buyer can be found, and
that may never happen.
