†††~~First Impressions~~†††

One thing about being around the Mitchell House, You had no doubt in your mind when Sunday Morning came around.

Kenny's Mom and Dad were both up good and early, breakfast being fixed, Kenny's Dad putting final touches on His Sunday School lesson, (Note: Kenny's Dad taught Sunday School Classes ranging from the Teens to the Senior Ladies Bible Class during the 30 plus years that He taught.)...- and the sound through all of the house was the GOSPEL JUBILEE on the television, featuring all the Good time Gospel singers, Like the Florida Boys, The Blackwood Brothers, The Inspirations, and The Happy Goodman Family....

Here is another point I would like to make.

Thoughout Kenny's life he has been an avid music collector, which started out buying records back in the late 60's, and the very first album he ever purchased, and He had a choice to buy anything he wanted, was an album of assorted Gospel Songs....

I was so proud of Kenny that Day. This was the start of something that would stay in His heart for the rest of his life...

During the summer of 1970, Kenny got the thrill of going to his first CONCERT.....

Nope, not a rock concert, His family and him went out of town to see THE HAPPY GOODMAN FAMILY....

Kenny was so impressed after seeing the Goodmans and how happy they REALLY were, that He knew he wanted to have some part in music making.

That very night God planted new seeds in Kenny's heart and he began writing gospel songs. During this time His dad had been teaching Him to play the Guitar but Kenny decided he wanted to learn something a bit different.
The Ukulele.

And he did..He learned to play the Uke just like his dad played the guitar.

That was all it took to charge Kenny up even more and the songs poured out.

This once, shy boy in church was now up in front several Sunday nights a month with a new song that he had written and He and His dad sang and played...Kenny on the Uke and His dad on the Guitar. Oh those were wonderful days!

The first song that Kenny wrote after seeing the Goodman Family in concert was the song...

HE'S A GOOD GOD.....

Here is a portion of that song...

IF YOU'RE FEELING DOWN AND OUT SO DEEP WITHIN SIN...I KNOW WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SHOUT AND FEEL SO GOOD WITHIN...ALL IT TAKES IS GOD, ALL IT TAKES IS GOD HE'LL BE WITH YOU EVERYDAY.....

Chorus...

'Cause Hes a good God, Yes, He's a good God, It's My God thats a good God..and He can be your God, too.....If you start your life out anew....

That song was sung hundreds of times and the people loved it.

So..Even though Kenny had gone through some rough times in Ninth Grade, His summer of Music for Jesus more than made up for anything that had happened the nine months before...
