Sarah's Prayers

"The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous." Proverbs 15:29 KJV

Sarah lived in an ungodly home. Her Father was the leader of an atheist group.

One Sunday night at church Sarah gave her heart to the Lord Jesus. The pastor said, "When you go home tonight, Sarah, tell your father and mother that you have received the Lord Jesus as your Savior." Sarah replied, "My family will all be against me. I don't know what will happen, but I will do as you say!"

She left the church and started home with a heart full of fear. When she neared her home, she saw a light shining so she knew someone was still up. Kneeling on the grass by the gate, she prayed "Lord, I am weak and alone. They all will be against me. I need Your help!" Then she arose from her knees and went up the walk. When Sarah entered the house her mother met her and asked, "Why are you so late? Church has been for a long time."

"I stayed to talk for a while, I gave my heart to Lord Jesus tonight! I couldn't say no any longer!"

"Sarah, you know that your father hates religion and the church. I don't know what he will say when he finds out what you've done."

"Perhaps I had better go and tell him now," Sarah said.

"No, he's asleep. He was out most of the night with those men. You had better leave him alone now. In the morning we will see what he will do." The next morning before leaving her room, Sarah asked the Lord to be with her. When she came into the dining room, there was a strange silence. Her father and mother and brother Richard stared at her. After they all were seated at the table, her father said, "Sarah, your mother told me what you did last night. So you got religion, did you?"

"For some time now I have wanted to give my life to Jesus," said Sarah. "Last night I couldn't say no any longer. I am very happy about what I have done!"

"Very Happy? I suppose you will be praying and singing hymns in this house. Don't you know that I cannot stand for such nonsense?"

When Sarah did not reply, her father continued: "There is nothing to this religious stuff. You could pray until doomsday, and it wouldn't affect me. Suppose you try it."

"Do you want me to pray for you now?"

That's what I want. If you think you've got religion, the sooner you get the idea out of your head, the better. I know there is nothing to it. I want you to find it out too. Begin praying. Begin at once I say." Sarah bowed her head and prayed aloud, asking Jesus her Saviour to keep her true to Him. She asked that her words and her life would glorify Him at all times and that other would be led to Him through her.

There was silence after the prayer. Tears were in the eyes of her mother, admiration in the eyes of her brother, defeat in the eyes of her father.

All week Sarah continued to pray at every meal. In a few days Sarah led her brother Richard to the Saviour. One day her mother said, "Sarah, there must be something to your religion. I think I will go to church with you next Sunday. I believe that your way is better than our way!"

Toward the end of the week Sarah noticed that when she prayed, her father didn't glare at her anymore. There were now tears in his eyes.

When Sunday morning came, Sarah, Mother and Richard prepared to go to church. Her father watched them. At last he said, "If you folks are all set on going to church, I reckon I might as well get the car out and go with you. "Sarah, your prayers have gotten hold of me. I believe that your religion is real!"

With tears in her eyes, Sarah kissed her father on the cheek and said, "Oh, Daddy, you have made me so very happy!" Then she took his hand and they started for church!
