When you asked us to send you our testimonies, I thought there should be no reason or excuse for me to turn your offer down.
I've never thought that my testimony was all that outstanding or extraordinary, compared to many others, but recently I have learned that it is in its own way.
Just the fact that Jesus has saved me from having to go through a lot of things, like drugs, premarital sex, and crime is something to brag about!
I was adopted. My mom had prayed for me for years, since she couldn't have kids. One night, while she was watching a preacher on T.V. praying for people, he started saying that God had his hands on a special woman that was watching. He said that she wanted a baby of her own and that God wanted her to know that he would answer her prayers.
A few months later, my mom got a phone call saying there was a teen mother who was pregnant and wanted to give up her baby. And my mom finally got her little baby girl, with brown curly hair and green eyes that she had been asking for from God for so long. My mom has always told me that God has a special purpose for my life because of all that.
It all started when I was about 7 or 8. I had been to church with my family a few times. They were Christians, but had just strayed from God after their divorce. I started going to church regularly with one of my friends. I asked my mom to go but she never did.
It was there in that small, country church that I accepted Jesus as my Savior one morning. I was probably around 9 then. Every Sunday morning, the preacher would ask if there was anyone who wanted to become saved. I always felt something tugging at my arms, wanting me to walk forward but I was always very timid. Finally I went though. I remember being so happy after that. I didn't understand a lot of things in the Bible, being so young, but I was so eager to learn about God and how he sent His Son to save His people. I remember telling everyone that I had just become a Christian!
Now that I'm older, I've heard a lot of people in my small town talk down about that preacher of that small, country church where I was saved. They ridicule him and say that he's a cult leader and everything else. I haven't seen him in years but when I knew him as a kid, he sure seemed like a good Christian guy to me. I always try to tell everyone that criticizes him how he lead me to Jesus.
Anyways though, soon after I was saved, I started into my teen years and that's when everything got shook up. I've made a lot of bad mistakes and choices during high school. I was always a good kid, a straight A student until high school. High school introduced me to boys, alcohol, smoking, awful music, cursing, and other things.
Then, my tenth grade year, my mom had a full fledged heart attack. She had to have emergency triple bypass surgery. They put her in a huge hospital about 65 miles away and I stayed with her a lot during and after her surgery. They thought she was going to die but, thank God, she didn't.
This helped bring my whole family back to God. After that, my mom started going to church where we just recently became members. I have to say it is probably the best church I've ever gone to! We drive about 30 miles to get there. During worship, we have a praise team/ band. We sing and dance and clap. Its great! I've started taking Christian classes also.
As I've matured in my Christian faith, God has begun to reveal some of his purpose for my life and the roads that he wants me to take, now that I'm getting older, just as my mom always promised He would. I can't wait to see what else He has in store for me!
