ONLINE VACATION

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON AND DENVER, COLORADO, USA

1/31/14

Hi Everyone. Since this is Superbowl weekend, I thought we would go to
the hometown of the two teams playing. We are going to start the
farthest west with Seattle, stop at Denver, and then on Saturday, we
will check out the stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. I know
they keep saying New York, but the stadium is in New Jersey. The
Giants and Jets both play there, not in New York. Since we are going
to both places of the Superbowl teams, neither will be a very long visit.

Seattle is a coastal seaport city and the seat of King County, in the
U.S. state of Washington. With 608,660 residents as of 2010, Seattle
is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of North America
and one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States.

The city is situated on a narrow isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of
the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles south of the
Canada–United States border. Seattle is a major gateway for trade
with large ports.

Seattle has three major professional sports teams: The National Football
League's Seattle Seahawks, Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners,
and Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders FC. Other professional
sports teams include the 2004 and 2010 Women's National Basketball
Association champions, Seattle Storm. The Seahawks' CenturyLink Field
has hosted playoff games in 2006, 2008, and 2014. The Seahawks have
advanced to the Super Bowl twice (2005 and 2013 seasons). The Seattle
Sounders FC began play in Major League Soccer in 2009, and also play
at CenturyLink Field.

January is normally their coldest month with average temperatures between
37 and 48 degrees Fahrenheit. August is normally their warmest month
with average temperatures between 56 and 76 degrees F. November tends
to be the rainiest month with an average of 6.6 inches, and a yearly
average of 37.5 inches of rain. February and December tend to be the
snowiest months with an average of 1.7 inches each, and a yearly
average of 6.8 inches of snow. The elevation of Seattle is 0 to 520
feet above sea level.

The City of Denver is the largest city and the capital of the U.S. state
of Colorado. The population as of 2010 census was 600,158.

Denver is a consolidated city and county located in the South Platte River
Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front
Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is located
approximately 12 miles east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation
is exactly one mile or 5,280 feet above sea level, making it one of
the highest major cities in the United States.

Denver is home to five major sports. The National Football League's
Denver Broncos, have their current home Sports Authority Field at Mile
High. The team has advanced to the Super Bowl six times and won
back-to-back titles in 1998 and '99. Major league baseball's
Colorado Rockies plays at Coors Field. Denver is also home to the
Colorado Avalanche, a National Hockey League team that relocated from
Quebec City in 1995. They have won two Stanley Cups (1996 and 2001)
while in Denver, and play at Pepsi Center. The Denver Nuggets of the
National Basketball Association also play at the Pepsi Center. The
Major League Soccer team, Colorado Rapids, play in Dick's Sporting
Goods Park. The Rapids won the MLS Cup in 2010.

December is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between
17 and 43 degrees Fahrenheit. July is normally the warmest month with
average temperatures between 59 and 88 degrees F. May tends to be the
rainiest month with an average of 2.3 inches, and a yearly average of
15.6 inches of rain. March tends to be the snowiest month with an
average of 10.7 inches, and a yearly average of 53.8 inches of snow.

I hope you enjoy this trip to the Superbowl cities of the Seattle Seahawks
and the Denver Broncos.
