DARRINGTON, WASHINGTON, USA

3/26/14

Hi Everyone. Our trip today is going to Darrington, Washington. A
couple days ago, there was a devastating mudslide at Oso, Washington.
I tried to find pictures of what Oso looked like before the mudslide,
but didn't find many good pictures. So, I thought I would show you a
neighboring area. From what I found, Oso had a population of 168
people at the 2010 census. The mudslide was about 6 miles from the
small area of Oso. Visiting Darrington will show what the area is
like. We have all seen the recent devastation, I want to show the beauty.

Darrington is a town in Snohomish County, Washington, United States.
The population was 1,347 at the 2010 census. Darrington is primarily
a logging town.

At one point called "The Portage", the town was renamed Barrington in
1895 following a community meeting. The U.S. Postal Department
mistakenly changed the first letter to a "D", resulting in the current
name of Darrington.

The area surrounding Darrington houses tremendous recreational
opportunities. Hiking, fishing, rafting and rock climbing are some
of the activities that take place nearby. In early 2014 a craft
brewery "Whiskey Ridge Brewing Company" will become the first craft
brewery in Darrington. It will be located in the historic Old City
Town Hall building.

January is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between
28 and 41 degrees Fahrenheit. July is normally the warmest month with
average temperatures between 50 and 78 degrees F. December tends to
be the rainiest month of the year with an average of 12.9 inches, with
a yearly average of 78.8 inches of rain. January tends to be the
snowiest month with an average of 15.3 inches, and a yearly average of
38.8 inches of snow.

I hope you enjoy looking at this area, but please say a prayer for those
that has lost their home and family members in the landslide in nearby
Oso, Washington.
