Québec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec. As of
2011 the city had a population of 516,622. Founded in 1608 by
Samuel de Champlain, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in
North America.
According to the federal and provincial governments, Québec is the
city's official name in both French and English, although Quebec City
is commonly used, particularly to distinguish the city from the
province. The city's most famous landmark is the Château Frontenac,
a hotel which dominates the skyline.
January is normally the coldest month with average temperatures
between 2 and 18 degrees Fahrenheit. July is normally the warmest
month with average temperatures between 58 and 76 degrees F. July and
September are the rainiest months with an average of 4.4 inches each
month, and a yearly average of 44.8 inches of rain. December tends to
be the snowiest month with an average of 33.2 inches, and a yearly
average of 134.3 inches of snow.
