Stroudsburg was laid out by Col. Jacob Stroud (1735–1806) in 1799.
The Academy Hill Historic District, Kitson Woolen Mill, Monroe County
Courthouse, and Stroud Mansion are listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
Stroudsburg is located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. The
Pocono region remains Pennsylvania’s biggest tourist attraction and
has nearly $1 billion in economic impact with over 8 million visitors
annually.
Stroudsburg is the only traditional downtown in the area. Downtown
Stroudsburg features many restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, a
variety of stores and specialty shops, and a couple hotels.
Downtown Stroudsburg also features a wide tree lined Main Street with
historically rich architecture.
January is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between
18 and 35 degrees Fahrenheit. July is normally the warmest month with
average temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F. The record cold
temperature is -25, and the record hot temperature is 110 degrees F.
May tends to be the rainiest month with an average of 4.8 inches, and
a yearly average of 47.2 inches of rain. January and February tends
to be the snowiest months with an average of 11.9 inches each month,
and a yearly average of 42.5 inches of snow.
