OLD FAITHFUL, YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING, USA
8/24/13
OLD FAITHFUL IS A CONE GEYSER. IT WAS NAMED IN 1870
DURING THE WASHBURN-LANFORD-DOANE EXPEDITION
AND WAS THE FIRST GEYSER IN THE PARK TO RECEIVE
A NAME. IT IS ALSO THE MOST PREDICTABLE GEOGRAPHICAL
FEATURE ON EARTH ERUPTING ON AN AVERAGE OF EVERY 91 MINUTES.
THE ERUPTIONS CAN SHOOT 3,700 TO 8,400 U.S. GALLONS OF
BOILING WATER TO A HEIGHT OF 106 TO 185 FEET,
LASTING FROM 1.5 TO 5 MINUTES.
IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE PARK, OLD FAITHFUL
WAS USED AS A LAUNDRY. GARMENTS WERE PLACED IN
THE CRATER DURING QUIET PERIOD WERE EJECTED THOROUGHLY WASHED
WHEN THE ERUPTION TAKES PLACE. GENERAL SHERIDAN'S MEN,
IN 1882, FOUND THAT LINEN AND COTTON FABRICS WERE
UNINJURED BY THE ACTION OF THE WATER, BUT WOOLEN CLOTHES
WERE TORN TO SHREDS. THERE YOU GO,
TAKE YOUR LAUNDRY ALONG AND THROW IT IN THE GEYSER. LOL.
HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR TRIP TO OLD FAITHFUL AT
THE YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK IN WYOMING,USA.
