SENJA, TROM, NORWAY
1/15/14
Senja is an island in Norway. Senja is located along the Troms county
coastline. Senja is connected to the mainland by the Gisund Bridge.
Senja had 7782 inhabitants as of January 1, 2008.
Senja is often referred to as "Norway in miniature", as the island's
diverse scenery reflects almost the entire span of Norwegian nature.
Senja is well known domestically for its beautiful scenery, and is
marketed as a tourist attraction. Among the sights of the island are
Ånderdalen National Park with coastal pine forests and mountains,
traditional fishing communities, and the "Troll of Senja" (Norwegian:
Senjatrollet)--the world's largest troll. The southernmost area also
has several small museums.
The north and western coasts of Senja are facing the open sea. Steep
and rugged mountains rise straight from the sea, with some fishing
villages wherever there is some lowland. The eastern and southern
parts of the island are milder, with rounder mountains, forests,
rivers and agriculture land. The highest elevation is 3,337 feet
above sea level.
January seems to be the coldest month with average temperatures between
19 and 29 degrees Fahrenheit. July is the warmest month with average
temperatures between 48 and 59 degrees F. As you can see, it is not
very warm there. October tends to be the rainiest month with an
average of 4.69 inches, and a yearly average of 35.43 inches of rain.
I don't have an average of snowfall.
I hope you enjoy this trip to Senja, Troms, Norway.
