OMAHA, NEBRASKA, USA

2/5/14

Hi Everyone. Our trip today is to the middle of the USA. We are going
to Omaha, Nebraska. I don't know anything about it, but since it was
mentioned so much with football, I thought we could explore where
Omaha is, and what it is all about.

Omaha is the largest city in the state of Nebraska, United States, and
is the county seat of Douglas County. It is located in the Midwestern
United States on the Missouri River.

Omaha was founded in 1854 and incorporated in 1857. The nickname for
Omaha is "Gateway To The West". Their motto is "Courageously in Every
Enterprise". The population as of the 2010 census was 408,598.

There are many big national company headquarters located in Omaha. They
are known for many inventions. A few are: the TV dinner, developed
by Omaha's then-Carl Swanson Co.; Raisin Bran, developed by Omaha's
Skinner Macaroni Co.; cake mix, developed by Duncan Hines, then a
division of Omaha's Nebraska Consolidated Mills, the forerunner to
today's ConAgra Foods; Butter Brickel Ice Cream and the Reuben
sandwich, conceived by a chef at the then-Blackstone Hotel;
center-pivot irrigation by Omaha's now-Valmont Corporation; the bobby
pin and the "pink hair curler" at Omaha's Tip Top; the ski lift in
1936, by Omaha's Union Pacific Corp; the "Top 40" radio format played
for the first time in Omaha.

Omaha has almost one hundred individual properties listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. There are also three properties
designated as National Historic Landmarks.

January is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between
14 and 33 degrees Fahrenheit. July is normally the warmest month with
average temperatures between 66 and 87 degrees F. May tends to the
rainiest month with an average of 4.8 inches, and a yearly average of
30.6 inches of rain. December, January and February all tend to be
the snowiest months with an average of 6.1 inches each, and a yearly
average of 26.4 inches of snow.

I hope you enjoy this trip to Omaha, Nebraska.
