Hi Everyone. Today's trip is to Killarney, Ireland. Since we are celebrating St. Patrick's Day, I thought we should see where it originated. So, whether you are Irish or not, I hope you enjoy learning about the area.
Killarney (meaning "church of sloes") is a town in County Kerry, southwestern Ireland. The town is on the northeastern shore of Lough Leane, which is part of Killarney National Park. As of 2011, they had a population of 14,219.
The town and its surrounding area is home to St Mary's Cathedral, Ross Castle, Muckross House and Abbey, the Lakes of Killarney, MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Purple Mountain, Mangerton Mountain, the Gap of Dunloe and Torc Waterfall. Owing to its natural heritage, history and its location on the Ring of Kerry, Killarney is a popular tourist destination.
January is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between 41 and 48 degrees Fahrenheit. July and August are normally the warmest months with average temperatures between 55 and 64 degrees F. October is normally the rainiest month with an average of 5.2 inches, and a yearly average of 44.5 inches of rain. There is no snowfall in this area.
