FERNDALE, CALIFORNIA, USA

Ferndale is a city in Humboldt County, California, United States. Its
population was 1,371 at the 2010 census. The city contains many
well-preserved Victorian store fronts and homes, many dating back to
the 1800's. The entire town is registered as a California Historical
Landmark.
Ferndale is the northern gateway to California's Lost Coast and the city
is situated on the edge of a wide plain near the mouth of the Eel
River, as it enters into the Pacific Ocean. It is also located near
the extensive preserves of Coast
Redwood Forests.
One of the earliest businesses in Ferndale were the many dairy farms.
Ferndale was the place where the invention of wrapping butter in wax
paper, also non-fat dry milk. The U.S. Navy was one of the biggest
consumers of the dry milk. Ferndale's nickname is "Cream City".
Local microclimates are varied and support tropical palm trees and Sitka
spruce, including a mature Sitka forest in Russ Park. There is an
over 150 feet tall spruce that is lighted every year for Christmas.
December is normally the coldest month with average temperatures between
39 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. June is normally the warmest month with
average temperatures between 49 and 88 degrees F. Their record low
was 19 degrees F, and their record high was 93 degrees F. January is
normally the rainiest month with an average of 8.45 inches, and a
yearly average of 48.47 inches of rain. They don't have snow, however
a rare dusting has occurred. Morning fog is common year around.
