BILGER'S ROCKS, GRAMPIAN, PENNSYLVANIA, USA
10/13/13
Bilger's Rocks is a geological phenomenon of massive sandstone formations
secretly nestled in the mountains of North Central PA along
an "almost" paved back road. Called "rock city" by geologists, this
ancient rock formation covers about 20 acres and has been preserved as
a park. Some of these giant sandstone formations tower 30-50 feet and
weigh hundreds of tons. Recently, Bilger's Rocks have been nominated
as the "8th Wonder Of The World".
Visitors can wander around, through, over and under these massive
boulders. You can walk on the top of the rocks from the park and look
down in the crevices, or go through the main part of the rocks where
you can climb over little or big rocks. There is a cave known as
the "Ice Cave" because it has ice in it almost all year.
They also have many events that happen at "The Rocks". One of their
most popular events is a haunted hayride through trails around the
area of the rocks. You ride deep in the woods on a hay wagon pulled
by a tractor. There are many Halloween scenes that you go passed. As
for me, I scream my head off, but it is fun. The area gets a lot of
snow, so don't be surprised if it is snowing.
Although my family is involved with the Bilger's Rocks Association, none
of the pictures are of anyone I know. I don't usually use pictures of
people, but I wanted to show the size of the rocks compared to a
person. I hope you enjoy this visit to Bilger's Rocks near Grampian, PA.
