FLOATING FOREST, AUSTRALIA

9/9/13

Hi Everyone... Yesterday, we were on Christmas Island, a territory
of Australia... Well, I have found something else I think
you would enjoy seeing while we are in Australia...
We are going to Homebush Bay in Sydney, Australia...
There, we will see a 102 year old ship
that has become a floating forest...

The SS Ayrfield is one of many decommissioned ships in
the Homebush Bay, but it is definitely the most bizarre one...
The ship was abandoned in 1975 and nature took over,
and made it an impressive sight of lush flora growing
in its rusted hull... The fully-grown mangrove trees gave
this 102 year old, 1,140 ton ship the name "Floating Forest"...

Homebush Bay is a bay on the south bank of
the Parramatta River, in the west of Sydney, in the
state of New South Wales... The bay has natural and
artificial shoreline on the southern side... The bay was contaminated
with dioxin and other chemicals by Union Carbide group which
led to commercial fishing bans in most of Sydney Harbour
for health reasons... So, we can't fish, and I wouldn't
suggest swimming or on the beach at all, but we
can look at the unusual "Floating Forest" since we
were already in Australia...

I hope you enjoyed looking at the Floating Forest...
