ONLINE VACATION

MURFREESBORO, ARKANSAS, USA

10/24/13

Hi Everyone. Today, we are going to a small city in Arkansas named
Murfreesboro. Although it is a small place with just 1,641 people in
2010 and only 1.9 square miles, it has a lot of visitors that come to
see this special place. One special place, in particular, is the
Crater of Diamonds where you can go search for diamonds. So, that is
one thing we will be doing today.

Murfreesboro is a city in Pike County, Arkansas, United States. The city
is the county seat of Pike County.

Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in Murfreesboro. The "crater" is
an eroded lamproite pipe where diamonds were discovered in 1906.
100,000 were found by 1933, and visitors to the park may still take
away whatever they can find. Hillary Clinton wore a 4.25 carat yellow
diamond known as The "Kahn Canary" Diamond, found at the park in 1977,
to the inaugural balls in 1993 and 1997.

Crater of Diamonds State Park, the only diamond-producing site in the
world open to the public, stands out as a unique geological "gem" for
you to explore and enjoy. You can experience a one-of-a-kind
adventure hunting for real diamonds. The diamond search is over a 37 1/2-acre
plowed field. Many people have found diamonds and other gems
in the field. You get to keep what you find. Diamonds come in all
colors of the rainbow. The three colors unearthed are white, brown
and yellow, in that order. Crater of Diamonds State Park also has more
than 40 types of rocks and minerals that can found. These rocks and
minerals include lamproite, garnet, quartz, calcite, barite, and hematite. Crater of Diamonds
became a state park in 1972. Other than the diamond site, the park
has hundreds of acres of forest to explore.

Also located in Murfreesboro is the 1,000-year-old Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village
and museum, which offers a field that can be excavated for authentic
arrowheads. Long before the white man came, their civilization was flourishing. They
were known to modern men only as the Mound Builders. One of the most
intriguing examples of their unique civilization lies at KA-DO-HA
Indian Village in Murfreesboro, Arkansas.

At KA-DO-HA Indian village you will be able to gaze backward into time and
see beautifully molded and decorative pottery, pipes, and expertly
chipped flint, all fashioned by hand by these artistic people. You
will learn how the mysterious mounds were constructed and you will see
the reconstructed mud and straw houses. You will come to understand
their customs, their ceremonies, and their way of life.

When you visit the many exhibits, you will be amazed at the intricacy of
the mound builder civilization. KA-DO-HA Indian village also includes
tours of the excavations where you will view actual archaeological
discoveries, a trading post featuring Indian crafts and souvenirs, and
a designated area for guests to hunt arrowheads.

I hope you enjoy this trip to look for diamonds and for Indian
arrowheads. That's quite a combination. You better bring a pair of
gloves so you don't get your hands dirty.
