2022 Northwestern Connecticut Antique Tractor Pulling Rules
The intension is to make antique tractor pulling a fun
a) All drawbars must be stock with no modifications. A clevis is to be used and cannot be modified. The maximum hitch height is 18 inches measured from a hard surface to the top of the drawbar. Washers may be used to Shim the clevis. The clevis must be attached to the drawbar in the normal location and have a minimum opening of 3".
b) The minimum distance of the drawbar is measured from the centerline of the rear axle to the pinhole where the clevis is attached this shall not be less than 24 inches.
c) Tractors with 2- or 3-point hitch drawbars must have the drawbar secured with stabilizer bars or pins.
d) Unusual stock items; The owner of any tractor equipped with unusual or seldom seen parts will require to bring parts, operators or service manuals to verify to officials that the parts are factory stock.
e) Industrial tractors that cannot meet this requirement must remain stock.
f) All tractors must have working brakes.
g) All major sheet metal shall be in place and properly attached
h) No Fordson tractors allowed. (because of worm gear drive)
i) Not allowed: 4-wheel drive tractors, dual rear wheels, tire chains, halftracks, crawler tractors, steel wheels, and no implements on tractors.
a) Regular or radial tires are legal. No cut tires are allowed.
b) Tractors in the 2500-, 3500-, 4500-, and 5500-pound classes will be limited to a maximum tire width of 15.5 inches.
c) Tractors in the 6500, 7500-pound classes will be limited to a maximum tire width of 16.9 inches.
d) Tractors in the 8500-, 9500-, 10,500-, and 11,500-pound classes will be limited to a maximum tire width of 18.4 inches on row crop styled tractors and 23.1 inches on standard tread styled tractors.
a) All tractors must be equipped with safety bars. The safety bar must be made out of channel iron or equivalent. The safety bar must be rigid and stationary and extend 4 inches past the furthest part of the rear tire's diameter, and 10 inches from the ground. 3-point hitch arms may be used, if bolted stationary into position. All safety bars must be equipped with safety pads on the end of the bars. Safety pads must be stationary and must not be less than 25 square inches per pad. All tractors must be equipped with safety bars strong enough to support the weight of the tractor when tested by an official.
a) Front frame weights are legal. This means any cast frame weight bolted in a stock location. Frame weights from different manufacturers may be used as long as they are bolted in their normal location.
b) Front wheel weights are legal. This means any manufactured factory front wheel weights bolted securely in its stock location. Front weights from different manufacturers may be used as long as they are bolted in their normal location. A maximum of two sets at events with no scales, and no limit at events with scales.
c) Rear wheel weights are legal. This means any manufactured factory rear wheel weight bolted securely in its stock location. Rear weights from different manufacturers may be used as long as they are bolted in their normal location. Three sets of weights maximum at events with no scales and no limit at events with scales.
d) Loaded tires are legal. Either loaded tires or three sets of wheel weights, not both at events with no scales. Both loaded tires and any amount of wheel weights at events with scales.
e) At events where suit cast weights are allowed, once the weights are placed on the tractor, they cannot be relocated to different positions through the entire weight class.
f) Weight Classes will be as follows:
1) 2500 lbs - 2) 3500 lbs - 3) 4500 lbs - 4) 5500 lbs
5) 6500 lbs - 6) 7500 lbs - 7) 8500 lbs - 8) 9500 lbs
9) 10,500 lbs - 10) 11,500 lbs
g) At events with scales all tractors are expected not to exceed the aforementioned weights. The scale operator will grant a 25 lb weight overage. Drivers must be prepared to make the tractor meet the required weight.
a) The Event Organizer at each event 'reserves the right to add any additional rules' such as the length of the pull, the use of suitcase weights, number of drivers per tractor, or any other rules which doesn't impact on the safety of the event. Drivers should 'contact the event organizer before the event' to find out any additions to these rules. All drivers will be required to attend a driver meeting prior to the start of the event, to become informed of any rule changes.
b) Pulling Position: At each event drivers will draw numbers to determine their position in line of each weight class, they are pulling in. In events where multiple drivers are allowed to use one tractor, the second drivers of any tractor will draw for position and be placed after all tractors in the class have placed.
c) Pull: The length of a full pull is 8'.
d) Hitching Up: You may not bring your tractor on to the track until the flag man allows you to do so. No packing the track! You may back up once and hook up to the stone boat. No pulling ahead and backing up again and again. Tractors must be in neutral and hands off the controls when the chain is being hooked to the clevis. No jerking of the stone boat is allowed! You must tighten the chain before pulling. Disengaging and engaging the clutch after the pull begins is not allowed.
e) Out Of Bounds: Guide ropes will be placed on the ground at a distance of 14 feet apart. Any part of the tractor touching the guide rope or going over the rope during the pull will be disqualified.
f) Stoneboat: The stone boat will only be centered to the track at the official's discretion during a weight class.
g) Weighing In: All tractors must be weighed in one hour prior to the start of the event. Once a tractor is weighed in it will be parked in the staging area and not allowed to go back to the pit area. The tractors weight maybe checked at any time during the event at the official's discretion.
h) No Riders: No riders on any tractors in any area or which includes the grounds of an event. Any drivers caught violating this rule will be disqualified from the event. Any coaching must be done outside of the outer bound's markers.
i) Fluids: Any fluids leaking from a tractor in excessive amounts will disqualify the tractor from the event.
j) Class Winners: A winner of a class can move up to the next class and compete, only if he / she won his / her class by making a full pull. No weight can be added and no changes can be made to the tractor the winning tractor may be re-inspected and re-weighed at the official's discretion.
k) Drivers: The drivers must be 16 years of age or older in maintain a good, safe adult behavior at all times. All drivers must remain in the seat while pulling and have at least one hand on the steering wheel at all times, failure to comply will result disqualification. All drivers are expected to help out on the track crew at some point during the event. Any driver intoxicated or disrespectful will be disqualified.
