OUR MEETINGS PURPOSE

“Sobriety — the freedom from alcohol — through the teaching and practicing of the twelve steps is the 'Sole Purpose' of an AA Group.” (Bill Wilson)

This Bethlehem Mens Back To Basics, Big Book Step Study Group was formed on January 4th, 2005 at The Woodhall School in Bethlehem, Ct. We relocated our meeting on September 16th, 2008, to the Thomaston Savings Bank, also in Bethlehem. We meet each Tuesday evening at 7:30pm - 9:00pm and it is a 'Closed' A.A. Mens Meeting.

It was voted by Group Conscience that, in the spirit of the 5th tradition it is the Sole Purpose of this meeting to help alcoholics, achieve and maintain sobriety through the study, discussion and practice of the 12 steps as they are, 'Laid Out In The Basic Text Of The Big Book'.

It has been our experience that other methods did not work well for us. Some of us have tried and our results were not very successful, until we looked at the basic and simple approach, The Big Book Offers.

We only ask that during meetings, discussion be limited to The Step being studied tonight. It has become apparent to us that when we Stopped Blaming People, Places, and Things for Our Problems, and Decided to take an Honest And Fearless look at Ourselves as the 'Root Cause Of Our Alcoholism,' and Decided to Apply these Twelve Principles in our lives, 'We Got Better'.

If discussion strays from the step being studied, the chairperson will remind you of the purpose of this meeting. It is not the group's intention to be intimidating or insulting to anyone. We only know that if you are talking about The 'Situation', you cannot possibly be talking about, The 'Solution'.

If you have done this step With Your Sponsor, please share your experience with us. If you haven't, we ask that you be open minded enough to listen at first. If you have a question pertaining to the step, please feel free to ask. Everyone will have an opportunity to share. Group Conscience has voted a five-minute limit on everyones comments when sharing, so that everyone has a chance to participate.

All of our members are more than willing to talk to you about any other matters that may be of concern to you. If you have A 'Situation', feel free to discuss it with someone during the break, or after the meeting.
