Hiding From Halloween

By Phelicity

Halloween is a scary night, you know. Looking out the window, you might see witches and goblins running around, childrens in custumes (and they're scary enough without them) big humans with purple hair carrying pillowcases, some running around in sheets to look like ghosts... there's lots of laundry out there but there's scary stuff, too! And the best place for a kitty is no place near it! Specially when all those strange beings ring the doorbell of your furry own house, and your meowmie might have no better sense than to answer it!

What's a kitty to do? Hide, that's what. Halloween is scary, I don't want it to find me. So I hide. I'm furry good at hiding, too; I got places that even my own mom can't find me. And other places that I just wasn't in when she looked. All kitties are good at hiding, and this is the night to give it your best.

I might be under the big chair in the living room. If I crawl under from the back, there's a space for me. I hope no goblin can lift the side and see me there. I might paw open the end table cupboard and hide in there, long as I remember not to bonk the door or make noise if I snack on a magazine. I might go under the bed, right smack in the middle where the longest arms can't reach me. I hope goblins don't have flashlights. Or down in the den and hide in the dark corner behind furniture or the window behind the drape. Eeek! No, they'd see me in the window from outside.

Then I might go to the closet that the door's always open for me and hide in my bootbox. I spend a lot of time in my bootbox. It's where I go when I get purrturbed or just want quiet time to myself. And it'a a purrfect hidey place.

Yup, that's it. Boxes are the best places to hide. All houses have boxes, and mine has more than most. In fact, my enclosed porch has wonderful boxes to hide in. I drove my mom nuts one day when I picked one of those! My goodness, what a flurry I caused. It was fun!

So I'll be hiding from Halloween in a box, but I'm not saying which one. Till the scary part's all over. Then I'll put on my mask, flitter-flutter my fairy wings, and go to a party!
