Silver Sunshine Revisited: New Poems for Phelicity

        Happiness

I'm not so sure what happiness is,
But I can tell you the way it feels -
Like angel wings that flutter and brush,
Warmth and silkiness, smooth and plush,
The softness of cottony clouds it steals,
Forever snuggling here in my lap.

I'm not so sure what happiness is,
But I can tell you the way it looks -
Like rays of sunshine, rose petals unfurl,
It comes in a puff of silver and pearl
To sunny windows or shadowed nooks,
Forever beautiful here in my arms.

I'm not so sure what happiness is,
But I can tell you the way it sounds -
Softly far eastern silver bells ringing,
Brave cockney hollers to off-key singing,
And needing no reason, knowing no bounds,
Forever purring deep in my heart.

Are these kinds of happiness all I need,
Here in the room and no others afar?
No other prizes or word or deed?
I can answer honestly, yes, they are.
