Memorial for Our Fallen Heroes

Letter From A Fallen Soldier

I am here, ready to fight,
For all my loved ones, who are home in fright.

The sites around me, I hope you never see,
They aren't very pretty, not even for me.

Times are hard, and things are rough,
But fight for freedom, something I must.

Now it's tme for good-bye, I see it in his eyes,
he says I'm okay, but I know it's a lie.

This is the end for me, but the rest of you will be free,
I'm in your memories, I will always be.

In Memory of our Fallen Heros

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this their Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.

The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,903 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.
