~ The Empty Chair ~
When I awake each morning
And quiet fills the air -
I look across the room and see
Your well-worn empty chair.
I know that you are sleeping
In the room right down the hall.
That isn't what makes my heart ache -
No! It isn't that at all.
It is because I realize
That yet another day -
Your Bible isn't by your chair -
But somewhere (put away)!
I know the pains you suffer
As you walk this road of life.
I know the comfort you received.
The "healing hand" in strife.
My heart grieves as I wonder -
While looking over there.
If your heart is as empty
As your well-worn empty chair.
It is as though the person
I knew once has gone astray.
For even when you're in your chair -
You seem so far away.
We've had our share of struggles -
But others have theirs too.
Yet now I have the comfort -
The Holy Spirit pulls me through.
I know you felt this also -
As you bowed your head in prayer.
I know God's heart is breaking -
As He views your empty chair.
We pass this way by grace alone.
We each go our seperate way -
But God's plan has us "meeting" -
At the ending of the day!
I wasn't sent to judge you -
But I was sent here to care.
The Lord now wipes my falling tears -
As I see your empty chair.
