A Better Life

Look deep inside,
what do you see?
Do you see the wickedness
that lurked inside of me??

Shadows of things,
I did not know.
Impure thoughts,
which did not show.

I thought I knew myself,
so very well.
Even though I was on a
collision course towards hell.

Consuming evil
engulfed me whole;
and I nearly lost
my mortal soul.

My sins became
engrained in me,
Till all good,
no one could see.

Then one day
I was thrown in jail.
I began to moan,
and deeply wail.

I realized that
I let a good man die.
Looking toward the bars
a tear dripped my eye.

I took a sheet
and began to plot
Of how to shape
a hangman’s knot.

My life I was ready
to end that night.
‘Til a light began
to shine so bright.

The light was the Word
of God you see.
Then the Lord, He ministered
and spoke to me.

He said, “I never left you"
and "I’ll see you though
I’ll be with you
no matter what you do”

"But if you give up,
I will have to leave,
Because with all your heart
you did not believe."

I poured out my heart
and gave my life that day
And chose to live my life
a different way.

No matter what,
I died that night
I figured it best
to do what’s right.

I could have hung
and burned in hell,
But in Jesus,
I chose to dwell.

The wickedness is now
dead inside.
Righteousness is
what I let reside.

I’m filled with hope
and a strong desire
To help others find God
and escape Hell’s fire.

I’m better now,
and could have avoided the pen,
if I would have truly given my life
to the Lord back then.

Trust in the Lord Always!!!
