The Visit
Three cardinals came to visit me,
They sat in one small berry tree,
And though the skies were cold and grey
Their cheerful presence made my day;
They had some breakfast in the rain,
And made it very, very plain
That they were skilled in cheerful arts
To put shame to some human hearts
That felt depressed and all awry
Because the heavens had to cry.
I watched them for a little while
And soon my heart began to smile,
And though I had known pain and grief
The cardinals had restored belief.
