Stepping Stones
Dear Lord please always let me see
In everything befalling me,
A spark of light that I may know
That through it all You will it so.
May every silent pain I bear
Become for me a golden stair
That rises high above the woe
Our human hearts were meant to know.
May every little heartache felt,
Each disappointment roughly dealt,
Uplift my soul that I may be
A fire that brightly burns for Thee.
And through life’s waters dark and deep,
May Thy blessed presence keep
Afloat the boat in which I ride
Until I reach the other side.
For I am but a timid soul
In need of Thy dear hand to hold,
Ever trusting Thee to lend
The strength on which I can depend
Amid the trials Thou has sent,
However plaintive my lament,
I know my tears, and sigh and groans,
Are only little stepping stones.
