Be Near me GOD when night hours come
And twilight brings the setting sun,
As darkness falls and stars hang low
A ceiling for the world below,
Within the quiet still and deep
As nighttime bids us rest in sleep.
Be near me GOD as dawning breaks
When morning comes ~ the world awakes,
Within my heart, a gentle peace
As hope is born and worries cease,
Where love shall dwell ~ a faith my own
To keep me strong through hours alone.
Be near me GOD as shadows fall
In afternoon with trees grown tall,
Through darkened clouds and stormy hours
The golden sun and Springtime showers,
As Summer comes with warmth and cheer
The lovely Autumn of our year.
Do walk with me along life's way
That I might face the hardest day,
Through every hour so bright and free
Until I reach eternity,
To lend me courage ~ drive out fear
Dear GOD, I ask, that You be near.
