What Being an American Means to Me" was written by Randy, a nine year boy. He was awarded an "Outstanding Citizen Award" by his Mayor and Police Chief on May 30, 2003. He was also Proclaimed to be a "Patriotic American" by his County Council.
Being an American is a very special gift. Americans stand up for what we think is right. We stand up as one nation and help each other through hard times. It's not the money you have, it's pride that builds our lives.
It's special being an American because we are free. We earned our rights but we are still under control. Sometimes I wonder why people do the things they do. Why do other nations terrorize us for no apparent reason?
I wish the whole world would band together and help each other fight the unexpected. I am proud to be an American because we are open to everyone. I think God is always by our side. In America our hearts are pure, our souls are clean. America is the promised land. We aren't looking for a fight, we are looking for a friend.
Life without America just isn't life. I hope you feel that way too. America is home of the brave and land of the free. That's what being an American means to me.
