Breaking News:
I have joined The Climb to Fight Breast Cancer. It is organized by the
Hutchinson Cancer research Center. I will be climbing Mount Adams August 18
- 21, 2011. My goal is to raise at least $3,000. Please
donate to the cause!
I will match all donations dollar-for-dollar!

I
used to be a perfectly normal person.
Then in 1997, after reading Into Thin
Air and being extremely burnt out from my high stress job at Yahoo, I decided to
take a month off and go to Nepal and trek out to
Everest base camp.

Me with Mt Everest
in the background |
That trip changed everything. Once I returned from Everest,
I re-prioritized my life. Besides spending more time with my family, I
vowed to hit the mountains from then on whenever possible. So in the spring, of
2000, I took a 6-day mountaineering
course up in Alaska with my sister
Jamie.
Over the last 12 years, I have traveled to all 7
continents pursuing my adventures.

What's Next?
I've pretty much climbed most of the mountains in the far away places I
was excited about. Now I am more interested on focusing more on climbs
closer to home in the Sierra Nevada and Cascades and going on high altitude treks
Jamie and I have had a goal to climb the major volcanoes of the Cascade chain. So far
we've climbed Mt Shasta
(Casaval Ridge), Mt Hood (Sunshine Route) and
Mt Rainier (Emmons Glacier Route) and The Three Sisters (normal
route). We still have Mt Adams and Mt Baker in Washington to go.

On the summit of Matterhorn Peak |
My plans for 2011 include a walk along the
West Highland Way in
Scotland, as well as a couple of local trips. One to the Cascades to
climb Mount Adams
to raise money for breast cancer research, and a trip with Jamie to
traverse the Sierra's with our friends Cyrus and Nick (the
Elbrus
group reunites once again. 2012 is huge with a trip back down to Patagonia
to trek the Torres del
Paine Circuit, and a super challenging trek through the
Cordillera Blanca in
Peru and another climb for a cure, this time of
Mount Baker.
