WILKES-BARRE - Luzerne County Judge Fred Pierantoni III on Friday sentenced James View, 40, of Arch Street, Newport Township, to three to six years in state prison on drug offenses. Township police and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force said View was in possession of 13.6 grams of crack cocaine, 115 heroin packets, contraband and a debt book when a search warrant was served at his residence on September 25, 2011, according to the criminal complaint. View was sentenced on two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Times Leader, September 17, 2012.

NEWPORT TOWNSHIP - A human skull was found in woods near Alden Mountain Road on Saturday. The skull was discovered by people searching debris dumped in the woods, state police Trooper Martin Connors said. State police searched the area with cadaver dogs on Sunday finding no other human remains. Connors said the skull will be examined by a specially trained dentist, known as forensic odontologist, and will be shipped to the University of Texas for DNA tests in an attempt to identify it. Examination of the skull may take three to six months, Connors said.

WILKES-BARRE - A Glen Lyon, Newport Township, woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges relating to an incident in which police say they found a 2 year old boy in a car parked behind a residence in Wilkes-Barre. Sabrina Tomcho, 21, of Rock Street, and also with a listed address of Luzerne Street, Hanover Township, entered the plea before Luzerne County Judge Tina Polacheck Gartley to charges of endangering the welfare of children and a summary charge of driving with a suspended license. Polacheck Gartley said Tomcho will be sentenced September 29th. On January 21 police said they saw the boy in the car while conducting an unrelated traffic stop and found Tomcho inside a Monroe Street, Wilkes Barre, home. Police said the child was outside in the car for a least 26 minutes while the tempature was 23 degrees.

WILKES-BARRE - Police said they cited Leann Telesky, 46, of Glen Lyon, on public drunkenness charges at 77 E. Market Street. Police said they received several calls made by Telesky to police headquarters and from Luzerne County 911. During the calls Telesky reported she lost her boyfriend while at Twist, a bar on state Route 315, and later that while at The Hardware Bar on South Main Street she lost a money clip containing in excess of $100,000 while inside and could not regain entry. Police said they located Telesky in fron of Genetti Hotel & Conference Center on East Market Street and allegedly found her to be intoxicated. She was cited with public drunkenness and held unteil sober, police said.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP - Police arrested Colton Lee Howell-Hadley, 21, of Blackman Street, Wilkes-Barre, and Joshua John Krzywicki, 21, of South Market Street, Glen Lyon, Saturday on charges they stole stereo equipment from vehicles. At 1:15 a.m. a witness reported seeing the two men attempting to break into vehicles on South Main Street, police said. Police said they located Howell-Hadley and Krzywicki, who fit the description provided by the witness, and found they had smashed the windows of two vehicles in the area and removed stereo equpment. Krzywicki attempted to flee but was stopped and arrested after a foot chase, police said. Howell-Hadley and Krzywicki were arraigned Saturday morning at Luzerne County Correctional Facility on charges of theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief and public drunkenness. Krzywicki faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.

NANTICOKE - A woman accused by Newport Township police of leaving two children alone in a vehicle overnight in the woods waived her right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Donald Whittaker on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Melissa Demarco, 33 of Hunlock Township, waived two counts each of reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of children and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle, and a single count of trespass by vehicle to Luzerne County Court. Township police allege Demarco left two boys ages 2 2 years and ten months alone in her vehicle she abandoned when it got stuck in mud in a wooded area on April 3, according to the criminal complaint. Demarco claimed she got lost in the woods where she was looking for help. She was in the woods looking for the father of the boys, the criminal complaint says. Demarco remains free on $50,000 bail.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP - Police arrested Jarrett Edmonds, 27 of Glen Lyon, on charges he violated a protection of abuse order Friday. Police said Edmonds' wife, Margaret Raimondi, who has an active protection from abuse order against Edmonds, returned home to find him in her residence Friday. Police responding said they found Edmonds sleeping in Raimondi's bed. Edmonds was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Halasey and remanded to Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5000 bail, police said. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 12 at the Luzerne County Count House.

A 35 year old Wanamie woman was arrested by Newport Township police in connection with an April 20 burglary in which a laptop computer was stolen from a home on West Main Avenue. Police said Thursday that Kendra M. Howells will be charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen propery. She also will be charged with criminal mischief for damage done to an electric grill during the break-in, police said.

Moved by the theft of more than 125 veteran grave markers from three area cemeteries last week, James Gatrell, owner of Jim's Flags and Banners in Wilkes-Barre, is offering free flags to any veteran who asks. Brass medallions were reported stolen from flag holders at St. Adalbert's, St. Michael's and the Italian Independent cemeteries in Newport Township last week. The American Flags once held by the markers were left lying in the mud. The standard size or miniature American flags are free to any American armed services veteran and may be picked up at Jim's Flags and Banners, 5 Airy St. between l0 A.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gatrell said he also sells plastic grave markers, which cost half the price of brass markers and are less likely to be stolen.

A Tunkhannock man accused of carrying heroin waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Judge Don Whittaker on Tuesday. Jason Anthony Sabatella, 31, waived charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance to Luzerne County Court. Newport Township police withdrew four other counts of possession of a controlled substance against Sabatella. Officer Robert Evans, Jr alleged he found a syringe and heroin packets in Sabatella's pockets on April 13, according to the criminal complaint.

NEWPORT TWP.- A man was arraigned Thursday in Wilkes-Barre Central Court on charges he was found in possession of heroin and contraband. Jason Anthony Sabatella, 31, of Tunkhannock, was charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance and a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail. According to the criminal complaint: Officer Robert Evans, Jr., offered Sabatella a ride after seeing him for a second time walking on West Main Street Wednesday night. Sabatella told Evans he was walking to a friend's house "just down the street". Evans wrote in the criminal complaint that he offered Sabatella a ride as he was concerned for his well being due to the weather. Before putting Sabatella inside the police cruiser, Evans asked permission to search him. Evans claimed Sabatella agreed to be searched when a syringe was allegedly found in a pocket, the criminal complaint says. Sabatella was transported to the police department where Evans alleged a second search turned up five heroin packets. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on April 19th before District Judge Donald Whittaker in Nanticoke.
