NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME!

I am happy to report the 2013 National Night Out event was a great success! We thank the Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis for being our guest speaker focusing on the importance of crime watch groups. We thank speakers Commissioner Zyla and Chief Jeremy Blank who also presented a gun safety program to the young attendees. All ages enjoyed the food and games (with prizes). And importantly, many thanks to the Newport Township Police and Fire Department and all the volunteers and sponsors who made this event a success.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: (1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with our nation, Canada and military bases, Glen Lyon Crime Watch invites all Newport Township communities to take part in this event. This event is always held the first Tuesday of August. The Glen Lyon Crime Watch is registered with the NATW.
