Image Magick is the creation of web innovator, John Cristy, a man committed to the ideal of freely available services on the world wide web.

An official Image Magick message board is provided for help and to report problems. Register and post only in the Magick Studio Forum.

Image Magick Studio is currently hosted at these servers. If one is not working satisfactorily, try another.

    How to Transparify Using
    Image Magick

  • Put the url of the image you want to transparify into the text field where it asks for the URL and hit the view button.

  • On the next page you will see the image.

  • Beneath the image are dropdown menus for Method and Paint Type. There are also input boxes for Fuzz and Fill Color and Border Color.

  • On the dropdowns choose:
  • Method

    Paint Type

  • Type 9999 in the Fuzz input box and delete or type none in the Fill Color and Border Color boxes.
  • Fuzz

    9999

  • Then scroll up and cursor over the image. Click to activate the pointer arrow. Move the pointer over the color to be transparified and click.

  • Background colors are usually transparified, as in this example.
  • Before

    After

  • Not only backgrounds can be transparified. Here the hair color was transparified.

  • That concludes basic transparifying directions. Here is additional information.

  • Once the image is done, go to the top of the screen and click on the Output tab.
  • On the next page select:

    Format: gif

Storage type: single file for static images or multi-frame file for animated ones.

Then click where it says Press to (output) your image or (reset) the form.

  • The first Image Magick tutorials were created by Josh Wilson in 1999. He has left WebTV and could not be reached despite every effort. His site is unmaintained, abandoned, and at risk of deletion by Tripod for inactivity.

Basic Image Magick tutorials are a valuable resource. So I have recreated them with new information, links and graphics. They will be actively maintained, updated, and improved.
